Video object files (VOBs) are the storage containers used for video on digital video discs (DVDs.) Once you rip a DVD to your computer as a disc image file (ISO), which stores both the video and data files on the disc, you can extract the VOBs from the file. The VOBs after extraction act much like files in other standard video formats, such as MPEG files or audio video interleave (AVI) files.
Difficulty: EasyInstructions1Use Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic if you have a Windows computer. Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player generally come preinstalled on Windows systems, and, according to the Microsoft website, both players can read and play VOBs. Launch the program from the "Start" menu and "All Programs," go to "File > Open," double-click the file and the file starts playing automatically.
2Get the VideoLAN VLC media player from the VideoLan website and install the program to your computer. The VLC player is available for free for Windows, Mac and Linux systems (see Resources.) Like Windows Media Player, the VLC player can be launched from the "All Programs" or "Applications" section of your computer, and you can open the VOB file you would like to play by going to "File > Open" and double-clicking the VOB file name.
3Download and install the Bitberry Final Media Player on your Windows system if you don't want to use Media Player. The Bitberry player also accepts VOBs, and like Windows Media Player, only operates on Windows systems. Launch the player from "Start > All Programs" and then click "File" and "Open" to start playing the VOB.
